There are plans to extend the military camp that is already illegally located within Virunga National Park. This is not good news for the park as the camp is going to house about 4,000 men, plus their families. You can read more about this over on both Elie and Rob’s blogs. On a lighter note, Congo Rangers are now on the Discovery Channel UK! The program is called Dangerous Jobs and you can find out more about what our job entails over on their website.

Can we get an update about the military camp in Virunga? has anyone been able to find out why the dutch government is involved? it’s strange to me since the Dutch are the ones hosting the new CITES meeting this year (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Sepcies, the CoP14). you’d think it would look bad for them to be the host country for this Convention and also to be setting up an illegal camp in a UNESCO World Heritage site!
